Where the money goes

Donations

Protect Statesboro is raising money for our campaign for a public vote on data centers. We want to offer our community full transparency in this process. We update this page weekly with what these funds have paid for and provide receipts for what we've spent so that you can follow along with us and know exactly where the money is going.

How to give

QR code for the UUFS Venmo account. Write Protect Statesboro in the note.

Scan this code with your phone. Write "Protect Statesboro" in the Venmo note so UUFS can make sure it goes in the Protect Statesboro fund. We never publish donor names unless you ask us to. Venmo can show payments on a public feed, so you may want to set your individual Venmo transaction to private.

Who holds the money

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Statesboro (UUFS) has agreed to host our meetings and to act as a temporary fiscal sponsor. Protect Statesboro is a resident-led group whose goal is to oppose the data center being built in a residential area on Burkhalter Road and any other data centers planned for our residential communities. We are not a nonprofit and we don't have our own bank account. No individual person holds or controls the money and our goal is for you to know exactly where it's going.

What your contributions pay for

  • Legal consultation and verification costs of petitioning for a citywide public vote on data centers.
  • Flyers, printing, and other necessary media for campaign success.
  • Operating costs, like the website, mailing, and other operational fees needed to sustain this project as a community-led action.

At this time, it does not directly pay for the current neighbors' lawsuit. That is a separate effort being run by a nonprofit group.

It is important that our community continue to sustain multiple pressure points on this project as we move forward to prevent its development. We do not believe in putting all our eggs in one basket and we hope you will be called to support all of the pressure points being placed on the end user, the developers and the city alike to create the change we all hope to achieve.

How donations are managed

Protect Statesboro will use all donations to purchase what is needed for the campaign and keep the receipts. A treasury officer who is not part of Protect Statesboro double-checks each expense, approves it, and reimburses one of our members after review. We then post it here for you to review yourself. We hope you will find our process to be the kind of transparency all of us neighbors deserve as we invest in this fight together to keep data centers out of our residential neighborhoods.

Gifts are not tax-deductible

Protect Statesboro is a group of residents, not a nonprofit, so gifts are not tax-deductible at this time.

What happens if there is money left over?

If our call for a public vote doesn't succeed, we don't keep the money. It will be transparently donated to a nonprofit that will continue this fight. If a vote is needed to choose that nonprofit, all petition signers who have opted in to updates get a say. Please make sure to opt in to updates when you sign our petition to make sure your voice is heard.
